What should you do if you witness discrimination in the workplace?

There are three things you can do:

  1. Complain informally to your employer.
  2. Raise a grievance using your employer’s grievance procedures.
  3. Make a claim to the Employment Tribunal.

What should you do if you think you are a victim of discrimination in the workplace Ontario?

In Ontario, if you think that you have been subjected to discrimination, you can file a legal application at the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario (Tribunal). Your application will proceed to a hearing before the Tribunal if it is not resolved by you and the alleged discriminator (called the respondent).

What is legal discrimination?

The area of practice called discrimination law covers incidents of unequal or unfair treatment based on a person’s age, disability, gender, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, genetic makeup, and other personal characteristics.

What do you need to prove discrimination?

Before EEOC can conclude that you were discriminated against, it would need to have proof that: 1. You were treated differently than someone of a different sex, race, national origin, color, religion, or age. EEOC will ask what you know about the person whom you believe was treated more favorable than you.

Can I sue for pay discrimination?

Sue (file a lawsuit against) your employer for pay discrimination. Under the federal Equal Pay Act and the California Fair Pay Act, you can go straight to court. You are not required to first file a charge with a government agency.
