What is tri some 2p 5p syndrome?

Trisomy 5p is a rare chromosomal disorder in which all or a portion of the short arm (p) of chromosome 5 (5p) appears three times (trisomy) rather than twice in cells of the body. Often the duplicated portion of 5p (trisomy) is due to a complex rearrangement involving other chromosomes.

What is 5q deletion MDS?

Deletion 5q is a rare form of Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS). For many people, it can remain stable for many years causing few symptoms. For others it may progress rapidly into a different subtype of MDS or transform into an acute leukaemia. Deletion 5q is not very common.

The “5q- syndrome” occurs primarily in females, and it is associated with megakaryocytes with hypolobated nuclei and a favorable prognosis.

What is the etiology of MDS on chromosome 5?

The etiology of this syndrome is not known, but the deleted region on the long arm of chromosome 5 (1.5 Mb at 5q31-q32) is the home of a number of important genes, such as IL-9 and EGR-1 [70, 71]. However, so far, a tumor suppressor gene responsible for MDS has not been identified on this chromosomal region.

How is del (5q31-33) syndrome characterized?

5q−syndrome [MDS associated with isolated del (5q31-33) chromosome abnormality] is characterized by RA, which is usually macrocytic, normal to elevated platelet counts, modest leukopenia, and the presence of numerous micromegakaryocytes in the bone marrow ( Figures 8.15 and 8.29) [1, 70, 71].
