What is a passing score for the NCE 2021?

By Daniel Rodriguez

between 98 and 105
NCE Scores A passing score is usually between 98 and 105, fluctuating slightly with each test administration. Scores take eight weeks to get back. While the pass rate for first-time takers is 84.8%, the test can become very overwhelming without proper preparation and knowledge of how the test is administered.

How much is the NBCC exam?

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS If approved, you will receive a Licensure Examination Registration Form and eligibility letter. Send the completed form and the examination fee ($275) and a copy of your eligibility letter to CCE.

How hard is the NCE exam?

There are many forms of the NCE and typically the cutoff for passing the exam is in the 90s (97, 91, 99, etc.) – out of 160 questions. One hundred questions correct out of 160 is 62.5%. Never has the cutoff for the NCE been higher than 65% correct out of 160 so it is a very passable exam, with your preparation.

How difficult is the NCE exam?

Only the overall score counts, so if you bombed out in one area but excelled in another, you can make up for it! NOTE: In recent years the fail rate for the first time administration of this exam is close to 60%. Yes, this is a hard test.

What happens if I fail the NCE?

If you fail the exam, you will have to wait at least three months from the test date before you can retest. The actual retest date will depend on the monthly testing schedule and site availability. You will need to send a new registration form and examination fee based upon your state.

What is the difference between NBCC and NCE?

NBCC developed and owns both the National Counselor Examination (NCE) and the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination (NCMHCE), which are used for licensure in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories of Puerto Rico and Guam. State licensure application processes vary by state.

How long should you study for NCE?

If you have been out of school for a few years, I would establish a two-month study program. Each week I would study a different content area being aware that some weeks more hours will be necessary because you may not be as familiar with the material and/or there may be many more questions on the exam from that area.
