What does it mean to be food safety certified?

Food safety certification is a third-party verification that products, processes or systems in the food supply chain meet accepted food safety standards. When there are no legal requirements for a food sector business to conform to standards, food safety certification is voluntary.

How long is the food protection exam?

How long does the course take? Generally around an hour to hour and a half depending on the course and your comfort with the materials. You can take the exam as many time as required. However, after 2 failed attempts, you must retake the course.

Is the food protection test hard?

We’ve heard from several sources that this exam is not that difficult. Additionally, roughly 80% of the questions on the exam are the same questions from the end-of-lesson quizzes you take in course. You should be FINE!

    Is the food protection exam multiple choice?

    It certifies that you have the knowledge necessary to prevent foodborne illnesses and is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) under the Conference for Food Protection Standards. There are 90 multiple-choice questions on the ServSafe Manager exam and the time limit for completion is two hours.

    What if I fail my ServSafe test?

    You can retest only if you did not pass the examination, or if your current certification is expiring. You can take the examination twice within 30 days. If you don’t pass the exam on your second attempt, you must wait 60 days from your most recent attempt before taking the exam again.
