What causes O2 sensor overheating?

Modern O2 sensors use a heater element with a dedicated circuit to bring the sensor up to operating temperature quickly. Most of the time, a O2 sensor heater code is caused by a failed O2 sensor. However, the problems with the heater circuit or PCM could also cause this code.

Do I need a heated O2 sensor?

The oxygen sensor must be hot (about 600 degrees or higher) before it will start to generate a voltage signal, so many oxygen sensors have a small heating element inside to help them reach operating temperature more quickly.

How many oxygen sensors does a 2000 Honda Accord have?
