What are some ECG rhythms that may have an accessory pathway?

By Matthew Perez

Accessory Pathway

  • Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome.
  • Atrioventricular Node.
  • Supraventricular Tachycardia.
  • Tachyarrhythmia.
  • Catheter Ablation.
  • Coronary Sinus.
  • Cardiac Dysrhythmia.
  • Ventricle of Heart.

What bypass can conduct impulses from the atria to the ventricles and reversed?

When the SA node fires, electrical activity spreads through the right and left atria, causing them to contract. The impulses travel to the atrioventricular (AV) node, which is the bridge that allows the impulses to go from the atria to the ventricles.

What is a concealed accessory pathway?

Accessory pathways (APs) directly connect the atrium and ventricle and bypass the atrioventricular node, bridging the mitral or, less commonly, the tricuspid annulus. Concealed APs conduct electrical impulses retrogradely from the ventricles to the atria, but not antegradely from the atria to the ventricles.

What is a bypass tract?

Bypass tracts (BTs) are remnants of the atrioventricular (AV) connections caused by incomplete embryological development of the AV annuli and failure of the fibrous separation between the atria and ventricles.

Is accessory pathway normal?

Accessory pathways occur at all points along the AV ring, and usually occur as isolated abnormalities, although a proportion of patients have associated congenital abnormalities.

How do I find accessory pathway?

Accordingly, it is determined by the site of ventricular insertion of the accessory pathway, AV node conduction time, and atrial conduction. Accessory pathways can be located anywhere along the left or right free walls of the heart or within the septum.

Is WPW life threatening?

In Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome, an extra electrical pathway between your heart’s upper and lower chambers causes a rapid heartbeat. The condition, which is present at birth, is fairly rare. The episodes of fast heartbeats usually aren’t life-threatening, but serious heart problems can occur.

Can you get disability for Wolff Parkinson White Syndrome?

This particular disease causes a unique type of tachycardia known as atrioventricular reciprocating tachycardia. Social Security disability applicants frequently have difficulties with arrhythmia/tachycardia and the symptoms resulting from same can form a valid basis for a disability claim.
