Can you skin up Alta?
Alta Ski Area is now closed to Uphill Travel for the season. Any other uphill travel presents a safety issue for our employees and skiers and interferes with our operations and the product we prepare and sell to our skiers.
Is Alta still skiers only?
Note: Alta Ski Area is one of the only 3 remaining “ski-only” ski areas in the United States. Snowboarders are not allowed to ride here during the regular season. Alta locals will claim that being a “ski-only” resort keeps the snow better for longer at Alta than at other ski resorts.
Why is Alta only for skiers?
The resort has banned snowboarding since the sport was invented. In Utah, the Alta Ski Area gets to keep its slogan “Alta is for Skiers.” The group, which includes professional snowboarder Bjorn Leines, filed suit in 2014 alleging the ban violated the Equal Protection Clause of the U.S. Constitution.
Do I need reservations for Alta?
Reservations are required. Only complete parties will be seated. Parties that do not show up or are more than 15 minutes late for their reservation may be subject to a cancellation fee.
Is Alta open in April?
Alta will be open daily until April 18th, 2021, then reopen for a three-day Bonus Closing Weekend Friday, April 23rd through Sunday, April 25th, 2021. We have been enjoying some incredible spring skiing conditions at Alta as we approach the conclusion of the 2020-21 season at Alta.
Can snowboarders ride Alta?
Alta is a skier’s mountain. Snowboarding is not allowed.
Can you fly a drone at Alta?
As long as you operate your drone in a respectful manner and follow the requirements in the City ordinance, you may fly your drone at some City parks, including Alta Laguna, Moulton Meadows, and Village Green Parks.
Is Alta good for beginners?
Alta caters to the beginner by providing an area with terrain perfectly suited for the beginner skier. The Albion base area is the perfect area to improve your balance and parallel turns, with access to beautiful Alta terrain via 3 chair lifts – Sunnyside, Albion and Cecret. Snowboarding is not allowed on at Alta.

The five lodges belong to individual families. The Alta Ski Lift Company owns the lift operation, a few administration buildings, three restaurants and the Alf Engen Ski School. The Laughlin family owns 51 percent of Alta Ski Lift; the Quinneys, 25 percent, and Dick Bass, the owner of Snowbird, 11 percent.
